Paramotor - General New Paraglider: Mac Para T-Ride.
30/01/2012

Featuring technology of competition gliders, the T-Ride is Mac Para’s answer to the needs of heavy paratrike pilots. Specially designed for loads of 200 to 400 kg, it offers top performance, low fuel consumption and light handling, according to the manufacturer.

The T-Ride has 58 cells, an elliptical form with aspect ratio of 5.2, and surface area of 39m2.
It incorporates diagonal V-tapes and load-bearing tapes for a clean surface, and specially designed airfoils and RFE support on the leading edge that result in high performance with extraordinary glide ratio and stability, according to the Czech manufacturer. Another feature is the special brake-system of flaps on the trailing edge at the centre of the canopy, which help to achieve “extremely low minimum speed” for launch and landing, during symmetrical application of the brakes. The system also aids climbing performance, according to Mac Para. “The canopy is very resistant to collapse, but it retains sporty handling in all trim settings”.
The speed range goes from minimum of 25-27km/h, trim speed of 41-43 km/h, to top speed of 60-63 km/h using speed bar.
The T-Ride is offered in two riser versions. One is equipped with a 5 point risers system and trimmers on the A and D-risers, which are used to accelerate the glider (A) or change the angle of attack and the airfoils in rows C and D (D). Version two is equipped with a special iron/aluminium spreader bar, and the angle of attack is adjusted from the trike.

Paramotor - General Fly Games Series land in Las Candelas
04/01/2012

With the philosophy of a World Cup of slalom paramotor and following the success of the event held in Brazil in December, the Fly Games Series will have their first date on February 4 & 5 during the popular Spanish PPG meeting "Las Candelas". These "Series" will serve as qualifying rounds for pilots who want to enter the grand Final of Brazil, at the end of the year.

One added motivation for attending Las Candelas in La Puebla de los Infantes (Seville, Andalusia) this year will be this competition - open to all paramotor pilots with sportive spirit and a like for adrenalin. The tasks of speed will take the pilots over slalom circuits with turns around large inflatable pylons, but they will also have to drag their feet on water or perform ground spirals touching the wingtip on the ground
Top pilots like Alex Mateos, Dean Eldridge, Emilia Plak or Pascal Vallée, as well as most members of the Spanish Paramotor team, have confirmed their participation in the first event of the Fly Games Series.

Las Candelas will give away 2000 euros of prize money for the best 5 pilots, with the first one winning a place in the Final and all expenses covered (plane ticket and accommodation included). The creators of the Fly Games have already received a number of requests to organize events for the Fly Games Series, and they expect to announce the full international calendar soon.
The Fly Games Series will allow pilots from all over the world to compete in public-friendly and fun-to-fly tasks at low altitude, in order to qualify for the grand Final that will be held again this year at the beach of Santos, near São Paulo.
Requirements for organizing a Fly Games Series event go from the use of the general rules and certain infrastructure (pylons, chronometric system, etc.), adapting the circuits to the site and giving away prize money to the best pilots, to choosing a suitable location for the public and the media.
Event organizers interested in the Fly Games Series can contact the Organizing Committee on their website: http://www.flygamesworld.com.br/ or by email to: ramonlopez64@hotmail.com

Paramotor - General Laurent Salinas wins 1st Paramotor Fly Games in Brazil
06/12/2011

A nail-biting final saw two French pilots, Laurent and Alex Mateos, fighting hard for the first place of this slalom competition at the beach of Santos, near Sao Paulo. 17 of the world’s best PPG pilots took place in it and had a great time racing along three different courses at high speeds and only few metres above the ground.

The first edition of the “Fly Games World” achieved its goal of showing the sport to the big public. The wide beach of Santos was the perfect arena for the slalom tasks, and the spectators seated on benches in front of it could easily follow what it was going on at all times. According to the competitors, the rules were very simple and clear thus leaving no room for complaints, just flying and racing in a sportive way. Only the weather refuse to play ball, with strong winds and even some rain during the weekend, and it was then a question of luck to have more or less favorable conditions during each pilot’s round.

Seven tasks were flown on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 of December, some solo and some exciting duels between two pilots covering the course at the same time. Overtaking was very tricky and the final between Laurent at the controls of a Paramania GTR (Vitorazzi Moster engine) and Alex with his Ozone Viper 2 (Polini 200 engine) was an epic race where anything could happen. Finally, Laurent found that the stability of his GTR helped him reach the goal ahead of Alex - despite the tight turns that the young French managed to nail.
Behind them, French champion Pascal Vallee (Dudek Hadron/Adventure) took the 3rd place, UK’s Dean Eldridge (Paramania GTR/Polini 200) was 4th and Italy’s Pasquale Biondo (Airwave Puma/Vitorazzi Moster) was 5th. They all received cash prizes.

Our Ojovolador pilot Daniel Crespo (Airfer-Moster/ RR Rolling 22) did very well ending on 6th place, despite being totally jet-lagged after a 24h delayed flight Spain-Chile (13h) and then a +12h trip to Brazil, and a prop broken on the first training flight… He even found time to record a few videos, take pictures and write a full report of the comp, which we’ll post very soon here. Stay tuned!

Paramotor - General Paramotor Worlds 2012 will be in Marugan, Spain
16/11/2011

During their annual meeting held last weekend, the Microlight Commission of FAI (CIMA) granted the organization of the next World Championship to Spain in August next year, at the Marugan airfield (Segovia). After a two years break for lack of organizers, this FAI1 Championship is good news for competitors.

Delegates from 17 countries attended the CIMA meeting, in addition to six others that were represented, to make a total of 23 countries, reports the member of the CIMA Bureau and Spanish delegate José Luis Esteban on his blog.

Mundial de Paramotor de Rep. Checa, 2009Spain presented the bid of Marugan as site of the Paramotor World Championships WPC2012, joining the organization of the Microlight Worlds WMC2012 already granted last year. Both Championships will take place successively during August 2012.

Also during the meeting the French delegation spoke about the 'Slalomanía', 1st paramotor world cup of slalom held in September, which they want to be included as official CIMA competition. You can read the official report here.

There has been no European or World Championships in the last years so the interest to organize future Championships is good news. In 2013, there could be a Paramotor European championship in Estonia, while Brazil wants to organize a Paramotor American championship. It would be the first continental championship outside of Europe. For 2014, there are three countries interested in hosting the Paramotor Worlds: Brazil, Italy and Tunisia, while for the 2016 Worlds there is already interest from Belgium and Tunisia.

During the assembly –like every year –amendments to the sporting paramotor regulations, also known as "section 10", were voted. One of the changes introduced is the length of the slow-fast task, now between 150 and 300m instead of the original 250 to 500m. This task will have a maximum score between 500 and 1000 points; previously it was always worth 500. Proposals 2, 6, 9, 10 and 16 of the presented and published on the CIMA webpage were approved, you can see them here

Competición PPG aces meet in Brazil for 1st Paramotor Fly Games
27/10/2011

On December 3rd and 4th, 16 of the world’s best pilots will face each other at the beach of Santos (Sao Paulo) for the first international competition of ability and precision on that side of the planet. The Paramotor Fly Games aim at bringing the most visual side of the sport to the big public.

Well-known names of the sport, like Ramón Morillas (ES), Pascal Vallée (FR), Alex Mateos (FR)  Laurent Salinas (FR), Grzegorz Krzyzanowski (PL), Dean Eldridge (GB), Emilia Plak (PL) Raffaele Benetti (IT), Pasquale Biondo (IT) and Daniel Crespo (ES) are among the selected competitors, while multiple acro world champion Raul Rodriguez and top acro pilot Hernan Pitocco will double as competitors and stunts, base-jumping and d-bagging from trikes to display their paragliding tricks too.

The competition will combine slalom circuits of speed with ground tasks of precision; for example, ground spirals touching the wingtip on the ground and swops on a water runway. For some tasks they will also try to put at least three pilots flying at the same time. The tasks will be simple and easy to follow by the public, with three inflatable pylons and two water runways on a 30,000m2 arena in front of the sea.
The organization --led by Brazilian top paramotor pilot and adventurer Lu Marini, with Ramon Morillas in the technical side and Ramon Lopez (team leader of the Spanish Paramotor Team and director of El Yelmo Festival, FIA)--, trust that the Fly Games will attract around 5,000 persons to watch the show at the beach, which will also be broadcasted by Globo TV, the main Brazilian TV station. The event has been confirmed for two more editions already: 2012 and 2013.
The idea is to attract the public to paramotoring through a very spectacular competition, combined with aerial shows in a perfect scenario, at the beach. The conditions of laminar winds there will allow us to fly at normal hours during the day –not only at dawn- making it a ‘public-friendly’ comp that will also be fun for the pilots”, explains Ramon Morillas.

The Fly Games will give away prize money for the 5 best pilots, with a big prize of 3000 euros for the 1st.

Video Balancing System for paramotor propellers
26/10/2011

The veteran engine manufacturer Cors-air, best known for their Black Devil machine, offer an effective system to balance your propeller after repairs. Watch the video.

The Cors-Air system couldn’t be simpler. It consists of three parts: a base and a cap to put in the axis of the propeller and so balance it, and a small ruler to check that we have done the correct setting.

For more info contact CorsAir or one of their dealers.

Paramotor - General Mathieu Rouanet wins PXP Speed race in Spain
18/10/2011

After 5 races following circuits of between 50 and 97 km, the ex-world champion managed to keep the first position overall, ahead of Benito Sousa (2nd) and our Ojovolador pilot Daniel Crespo (3rd). This new competition introduced a format of pure speed tasks using GPS, as it is done in paragliding competitions.

The rules stated that the competitors could not exceed the certified weight range of their gliders (excluding weight of wing and fuel) and the flying altitude was between a minimum of 150m above ground level and a maximum of around 1600 m over sea level, so the tactics involved not only pushing the speedbar and squeezing the throttle but also finding the best altitude for navigating and the ideal compromise with the power of the paramotor, so that it would not collapse!
The competition was a good test for the paragliders and also for the reliability of the motors, according to the pilots.

After the first tasks the competition was entirely among the top 3 pilots who had very little differences in performance. Mathieu –flying an Ozone Speedster 26 with a PAP Moster (125cm prop)- started with some problems in his engine during the first task and Daniel (Mac Para MacJet and Airfer Moster 185) took the chance to take the lead, although the scoring formula gave the maximum score of the speed section (time) to Xavi Carlos Criado (Dudek Nucleon/PXP Moster) despite not having completed all the turnpoints, which left the task winner with only 983 points (out of 1000). On the second task Daniel broke the speed system of his MacJet glider when he was on Mathieu’s heels at the last part of the race, meaning that Benito (Ozone Viper 2/Airfer F200) took over for 2nd place. The 3rd race was tight again but this time Xavi Carlos and Cesar Maldonado (Dudek Nucleon/PXP Polini 200) could get closer to the leaders, and a mistake in the turnpoints radius in his GPS put Daniel on 5th place after missing one tp, with Mathieu 1st and Benito 2nd again. The 4th task was for Daniel, with Benito 2nd and Mathieu 3rd, while in the last one on Saturday evening Mathieu was the winner again, becoming the overall winner. Airfer was the winner by team.

On the last day the organization decided to set a separate race not valid for the overall results and with special prizes for the best. It was a circuit of 10km with elapsed time and eliminatory rounds. The last round saw the 3 fastest pilots –Mathieu, Daniel and Cesar- racing along the course for an exciting finish between two pylons, won by Math.

Mathieu said that although he is not a big fan of “full speed for hours”, the PXP Speed Race was an interesting competition. “It is also a good way to discover a region as the tasks are not too long, you have time to feel the feeling, culture and landscapes of the region, and the Spanish style that everybody loves so much”.

Most pilots liked the format, although they think that some of the rules can be improved. For example, at the end of each race the pilots had to cross the finish line between two pylons flying close to the ground, which caused some arguments between pilots and organizers for the safety concerns they had.

All in all, it was a good comp with no incidents, some amazing flights over the special Andalusian landscape, and many prizes for the participants including a brand new paramotor for the winner.

More details soon in Daniel’s report; stay tuned…

Mathieu Rouanet wins PXP Speed race in Spain

The Spanish paramotor manufacturer decided to test empirically the performance of a life vest of automatic inflation, a safety accessory that any pilot who flies over water should use. For the test, Pap boss Pierre Aubert himself dived into the water with his PPG. The result was recorded on video.

On Sunday 2 of October, the reigning world champion managed to beat the records of speed over a 50 km out-and-return course and over a straight 15-25 km course with 72,8 and 75 km/h, respectively, flying with a Dudek Nucleon paraglider and a Nirvana Instinct paramotor.

Marugan airfieldThe airfield of Marugan, near Segovia in central Spain, could be the venue of the next Paramotor World Championship if the bid is voted at the next CIMA meeting in November. The provisional dates are 25 of August to 1 of September 2012.

32 pilots from all over Europe took part in this competition of ability tasks only, held in France last weekend (Sept. 15-17). The French swept off taking the 2 first places by team, with the young pilot Alexandre Mateos as overall winner, followed by Grzegorz Krzyzanowski (POL) and Mathieu Rouanet.
