TEST Sport AIRWAVE / DHV 1-2
Pilot: Daniel Crespo Valdéz
Published in Parapente Vuelo Libre Magazinie

Airwave is one of the mythical brands of free flying. Founded in 1979, its first success came with the production of the hanglider 'Comet', under UP license, for Europe ('Magic Comet'). From that moment on, a saga of successes started, thanks to the work of pilots as skilled as John Pendry and Rob Whittall, and gliders like the Kiss and the Magic. Bruce Goldsmith led their first attempt in the paragliding world in 1991, and had a good start with the commercial success obtained by the 'Voodoo'. This phase was crowned by the world title won in Castejón de Sos (Spain) in 1997. In spite of their settlement in the tax-free paradise of Wight Island, Airwave faced serious troubles when it came to compete in costs with Asian production, which forced them to close in 1998. Bruce was involved in the foundation of Ozone, John stayed in France dedicated to kite surfing and Rob had brief stays in Firebird and Edel, to finally land in Ozone. Markus Villinger, former importer of Airwave and Wills Wing for Austria, bought the brand in 1999 and asked Bruce to be in charge of the revival of paragliders' division, something he has certainly done well with the perfo glider 'Magic' and this intermediate 'Sport'. Airwave's designer lives in Greoliers (France), the offices are in Stubai (Austria) and they produce in Sri Lanka.
